Swap your trestle table for a timber grazing ‘boat’ floating on a sea of cushion ‘rafts’ and surrounded by cheeky sharks when styling your shark-themed party. Grazing tables are very on-trend and the low-set pallets are perfect for the little ones to gather around. Simply lay some satin ‘ocean’ under a shady tree, pop some pallets on top to create a ‘boat’ and surround the table with cushions for the kids to sit on. Finish the decorations by surrounding your table with a frenzy of craft cut-out fins. Simply pick up some grey cardboard and short wooden skewers from your local Stockland shopping centre, cut out some cardboard shark fins, glue the skewer securely to the back and place into the grass. It’ll look like sharks have frenzied around the table!

Create a jaw-some shellfie moment

It’s the little homemade elements that tend to make the biggest splash at a child’s birthday party and they’ll love to peek through the jaws of this cunning cut-out. Using a piece of thick card, trace some shark jaws and use an industrial pair of scissors or Stanley knife to cut out. Involve the kiddos in colouring in the shark with crayons. This could also double as a party game, where the kids could throw a plush fish toy into the jaws from a distance.

Caution: this could be the best birthday party yet!

Welcome your party guests with some creative and cunning signage that reads, ‘Caution: Mason’s turning four!’. We also had a cheeky shark chomping on the corner of ours! Simply print the sign on some A3 paper, pop it into a frame (that be reused in your home when the party’s said and done) and mount it on an easel.

Another way to entertain the kids before the party has even begun, is a crafternoon of decoration making. Begin with a playful take on the classic ‘pin the tail on the donkey’. Pin the fin is quick to make and a firm favourite for birthday parties. Simply print out a happy shark, glue him to a blue piece of cardboard, cut out a few shark fins and voila! Don’t forget the blindfold!
