Mirrigin Park wins 2024 Landscape Queensland Award for Construction Excellence
Located right in the heart of Stockland Providence in the Ripley Valley, Mirrigin Park has taken out the top spot in the Commercial 3 category at the 2024 Landscape Queensland Awards for Construction Excellence.
Developed by Eureka Landscapes on behalf of Stockland and in close partnership with the Yuggera Ugarapul People and CUSP landscape architects, the park was recognised for its exceptional construction that blends cultural heritage with inclusive community spaces.
Entrants in the Commercial 3 category were judged on several factors including the quality of the construction, how challenges were addressed and resolved, and the unique history and compelling story behind the project. A key highlight of Mirrigin Park is its cultural storytelling. Through a yarning circle and intricately painted totem poles by traditional owners Jordan and Shaylene Saltner, the park shares the deep First Nations history of Providence, inviting visitors to connect with the spirit of the area.
Stockland Project Director David Franklin said he was proud of the recognition by such a respected industry award.
“Mirrigin Park is more than a recreational space – it’s a reflection of the deep cultural heritage of the Ripley Valley and the values we hold at Stockland for creating vibrant, inclusive and sustainable communities. This award is a testament to the power of community collaboration, thoughtful design and construction, and celebrating First Nations’ heritage,” Mr Franklin said.
Eureka Landscapes Project Manager Lionel Desmond said it was a “wonderful night” at the awards, and the team was excited to take the top spot in the category ahead of six other contenders.
“We’re proud to receive industry recognition for the construction work at Mirrigin Park. Starting with a fantastic design from CUSP and collaborating closely with Dynamic Landscapes and the traditional owners, we’ve helped deliver an inviting space for the community to enjoy,” Mr Desmond said.
“Thank you to Stockland for the opportunity to deliver the park. We value our ongoing partnership and look forward to delivering more high-quality landscape projects at Ripley Valley in the future.”
The park's innovative design also extends to its inclusive and active spaces, with pathways and pedestrian connections maximising accessibility from all directions.
“Our goal was to set a new standard in sustainable urban planning and community engagement,” Mr Franklin said.
“Using natural materials, the park was designed to be enjoyed by people of all ages and abilities. It has open kickabout spaces, inclusive play equipment and calisthenics exercise facilities, designed to promote social connection and active lifestyles for everyone.”
The Landscape Queensland Construction Excellence Awards honour the highest achievers across 24 categories, including training, maintenance, design, and landscape with most eligible for the Queensland Residential or Commercial Landscape Construction of the Year Awards.
Mirrigin Park was officially opened on 31 May during National Reconciliation Week 2024. It is located at the intersection of Carnarvon Drive and Danbulla Street in Stockland Providence’s ‘True North’ precinct in the Ripley Valley, approximately 43 kilometres southwest of Brisbane’s CBD and 12 kilometres west of Greater Springfield.
