Glider Park: A playful addition to Aura’s ever-growing park trail
A brand-new adventure is on the horizon for Aura’s Banya neighbourhood, with Glider Park set to become the newest destination for outdoor fun, play, and relaxation. Inspired by the Sunshine Coast’s own Squirrel Glider, this exciting new park will bring the joy of movement and connection to residents of all ages.
Glider Park joins Aura’s network of uniquely themed parks, reinforcing the community’s commitment to ensuring every home is within 400 metres of a green space. Aura’s Assistant Development Manager, Courtney Thompson, says this focus on accessibility is key to creating a vibrant, active community.
“Aura is a masterplanned community designed to bring people together and recreational spaces like Glider Park are at the heart of that vision,” Courtney shared. “Having a park or green space within walking distance of every home means families can easily step outside and enjoy an active, social lifestyle right on their doorstep.”
Inspired by nature, designed for all-ages fun
Drawing inspiration from the Squirrel Glider’s natural habitat, the park’s design embraces the joy of gliding, climbing, and socialising. From a double flying fox and toddler play tower to tunnels that mimic glider dens, a swing set, slides, and a roller-skating path, there’s something for everyone at Glider Park.
Associate Director Sam Burns from Urbis, the team behind Glider park, explains the design ethos, “Squirrel Gliders are playful, social creatures that glide gracefully between trees, and we wanted to bring that same sense of movement and social connection into this new outdoor space.”
“We've infused the essence of flight and gliding into the design – you can just imagine kids soaring through the eucalyptus trees on flying foxes, slides, and swings, or people gliding on roller skates along paths that meander over rolling hills.”

A space for everyone
Beyond play, Glider Park is designed to bring the community together. “Our vision for Banya's park network is to create a playful, social, and welcoming space that caters to a diverse range of users, age groups, and interests” Sam explained.
Older kids and teens will love the netball half-court, while younger adventurers can explore balance beams and hide-and-seek-ready play mounds with their cosy squirrel dens.
From toddlers embarking on their first playground adventures to grandparents strolling with family along the walking trails, the thoughtful design ensures everyone can find their own way to connect, relax and enjoy the park.
“Parks like Glider Park don’t just add to the liveability of Aura, they help create memories,” Courtney said. “We’re excited to see kids racing each other through the playground, families picnicking under the trees, and neighbours coming together for a game of netball or a chat. It’s these moments that make Aura such a special place to live.”
Glider Park is bringing another fantastic recreation space to the Aura community. Keep an eye out for updates via our Construction page. We can’t wait to see residents gliding into their new favourite park!
