At Illyarrie, we’re not just building a community; we’re nurturing nature. In collaboration with the City of Wanneroo and Grasstrees Australia, we've rescued and stabilised over 1,000 grass trees - and counting!
Illyarrie is inspired by nature. We believe there's a better way to live, and sustainability is at the heart of this. As part of our Vegetation & Fauna Management Plan, we're dedicated to protecting and preserving the local environment, taking big steps to mitigate impacts on vegetation and wildlife within our community.
One of our key focuses under this plan is transplanting native vegetation, including grass trees and macrozamias, and relocating them to new homes in our community's streetscapes and public open spaces.
Since July, we've been collaborating with Grasstrees Australia and the City of Wanneroo. Grasstrees Australia's dedicated 'salvage team' has been busy rescuing between 50 to 100 grass trees each week - with the goal of 1,000 by the end of the year.
Some of these trees go through a crucial nursery stabilisation process, spending 12 months in a nursery to redevelop their root system with minimal water - giving them the best chance of survival. Others are directly relocated, and need extra care and attention to thrive without the time to redevelop their roots and foliage.
With the earthmoving expertise of Georgiou, and biodiversity standards set by the City of Wanneroo, Grasstrees Australia has successfully rescued 100% of viable grass trees. They've already hit their goal of stabilizing over 1,000 grass trees (and counting), whilst also maintaining the natural bushland.
Of these, we're bringing 130 plants back into our community's parks and green spaces. With our first neighbourhood park and playground set to open in early 2025, the team at LD Total are making sure these grass trees are perfectly placed. Soon, residents and visitors will get to enjoy the lush, green landscape and preserved local beauty right at their doorstep.
