With a career background in community engagement, and as an Aura resident herself, Charlotte Buckley brings a unique perspective to her role as Community Engagement Manager, and spoke to us about what it means to work for the thriving community she lives in.

“I am really excited about this role, and my main goal from a community development perspective is to build capacity in Aura and continue to foster the values and principles I already see. I hope to help strengthen them by creating self-sustaining opportunities to help our community flourish and be empowered, as Aura’s physical size and infrastructure grows; to provide collaborative choices in ongoing design ideas and address community needs,” she commented.

Once a Sydneysider, Charlotte and her husband decided a sea-change to the Sunshine Coast was the perfect way to start their new life chapter as parents, and she believes the region is a hard location to beat in terms of liveability.

“Locally, we are spoilt for choice when it comes to parks and playgrounds. Through connected walking tracks, the veloway, protected bushland and open green spaces, we are living in a community which champions an outdoor lifestyle. As a region, the Sunshine Coast offers amazing biodiversity, from ocean to mountains. There is always something to do that incorporates that, and it’s a place to be healthy and happy,” she said.

“I also feel that where we live has such a holiday feel- from the stunning landscapes, esplanades with restaurants galore to your favourite fish ‘n chips. Our family love to go fishing down at Golden Beach, bushwalking in Maleny or swimming at Currimundi Lake. It’s a place to uncover delicious local produce from strawberry picking to the dairies.”

From her own experience as a resident, Aura’s special community is one which Charlotte looks forward to working for.

“Aura is a creative and caring community with people who are really proactive. From community posts on social media through to the Aura Connected group, there have been some amazing community events and initiatives. This is a community which is unbelievably self-sufficient, and action orientated. If there’s a problem someone’s happy to tackle it, if there’s an initiative people are up for volunteering.”

“I also think Aura is a community of opportunity and I hope that my role will be able to be a conduit for that opportunity. There are so many businesses and organisations already doing amazing things and making connections and I hope that I can facilitate more of that.”
