Aura kids are encouraged to play their part this National Ride2School Day, by riding their bikes or scooters and enjoying the abundance of cycleways in the “cycle city” as they make their journey to and from school this Friday.

Hosted by Bicycle Network, National Ride2School Day is Australia’s biggest celebration of active travel and is held Australia-wide on Friday 22 March.

More than 350,000 students across the nation are expected to ride, walk or skate to school. It’s a day full of fun and colour, where students, teachers and parents can discover the joy of riding and kick-start healthy habits for the future.

Research indicates that riding a bike, scooting or walking to school can offer many benefits including improving children’s physical health, mental health and academic performance, improving traffic safety by reducing congestion and providing environmental benefits, by reducing the number of cars on the road.1

Charlotte Buckley, Stockland Community Development Manager said that Aura was designed with the aspiration to be a “cycle city”.

“So far, more than 70km of the Aura veloway, Aura’s dedicated bicycle pathway, has been constructed, encouraging the community to be happier, healthier and more active,” Ms Buckley said.

“Many residents walk or ride to the parks, schools and shops every day and we are delighted that upon completion, Aura will have about 200km of dedicated footpaths and bicycle pathways available for residents to access.

“Aura’s interconnected network of cycleways and walkways provide a safe and easy route for bikes, scooters, and pedestrians, making active transport more viable.

“National Ride2School Day serves as a great reminder for the community to encourage students, teachers and parents to look at alternative modes of transport for their daily commute.

“Cycling is an environmentally friendly, low-cost and healthy way to enjoy an active lifestyle and explore our Aura community, and if you’re thinking about giving cycling a go, then I encourage you to participate in National Ride2School Day this year.”

With the recent addition of Baringa Bikes to the Aura Business Park, there’s never been a better time to support local, get outdoors and make the most of Aura’s extensive network of cycleways.
