7 Aura locals making a difference: Meet Tahnae and Rhys Kent from Matt Fiddes Martial Arts Caloundra
With Stockland Aura celebrating its 7th birthday this year, we wanted to do a shout out to 7 amazing Aura locals making a difference in the community. Meet our first Aura locals, Tahnae and Rhys Kent, owners and instructors at Matt Fiddes Martial Arts Caloundra. Tahnae and Rhys have been operating their martial arts business for over 10 years in the Aura community, a place they love - not only to work, but they feel fortunate enough to call home too.
What is your current role or occupation?
We are Rhys and Tahnae Kent, the school owners and instructors of Matt Fiddes Martial Arts Caloundra.
What do you love most about your job?
We have been teaching martial arts to families of Caloundra for 10 years. The thing we love most about teaching martial arts is watching the students grow into confident well-rounded students, not only in martial arts but in their day-to-day life as well. Quite often we will run into ex-parents and families and they are always quick to tell us how much of a positive impact their time with us had on them and how it has shaped them as young adults.
If you had to describe your job using emojis what would you choose?
👊
When you’re not working, what do you like to do in your spare time / what are your passions?
Rhys is a keen mountain bike and road bike rider. He regularly attends races and has been riding in some beautiful places across Australia and the Sunshine Coast. Tahnae is a passionate dancer and loves dancing in the spare time she has. We also love spending time with our two young children going to the beach and visiting all the awesome playgrounds here in Aura.
If you could have 7 extra hours in a day, how would you spend them?
We would spend more time as a family hanging out at the beach and with friends.
What does “community” mean to you?
At Matt Fiddes Martial Arts Caloundra we are very big on creating a community feel within our organisation. We like to run events where all of our students and families get to hang out and spend time together outside of their martial arts training. To us, community means a place where everyone feels welcomed and a part of a friendly environment.
Are there any local organisations or initiatives that you are passionate about or admire?
We are passionate about the Daniel Morcombe Foundation and helping students learn how to be strong, confident young students. We are also passionate about helping students stand up to bullying.
What do you love most about the Aura community?
We love that we get to not only work, but live here amongst the families of Aura. We love the regular events that are held here and that we get to partake in them, which gives us the opportunity to meet and greet more wonderful families in the area.
