Spending time in the great outdoors is part of life in Figtree Hill.

Surrounded by natural bushland, with a network of walking and cycling trails throughout, the community is built for weekends enjoying the sunshine and fresh air. And just a short distance away are natural wonders just waiting to be discovered. Here are just a few to inspire the adventurer within.

Noorumba Reserve

Just two kilometres from Figtree Hill, Noorumba Reserve is home to a range of endangered habitats and wildlife. Spend a day walking or cycling along the trails, keeping an eye out for the resident wombats, goannas, dragonflies and butterflies. Noorumba Reserve protects an important area of endangered Shale-Sandstone Transition Forest and the largest stand of endangered Cumberland Plains Woodland. Ponds and creeks add to the diversity of the ecosystem, which supports the native wildlife.

Baden Powell Reserve

Whether your kids have two legs or four, the open space and serenity of Baden Powell Reserve is perfect for some fun in the sun. Enjoy a game of cricket, soccer or football, fly a kite and relax with a picnic in the shaded seating areas. Or, give your furry friend the VIP treatment at the new dog park, complete with agility area and doggy bubbler.

Heathcote National Park

Weekend warriors looking for adventure can visit Heathcote National Park, which is known for its spectacular native vegetation and wildlife, rocky outcrops and hidden freshwater pools. Enjoy bushwalking through the rugged landscape or mountain biking along Pipeline Trail. You can even stay overnight with a campground at Kingfisher Pool. There are limited facilities though, so be sure to come prepared!

Georges River National Park

Pack a picnic for a day trip to Georges River National Park, a popular spot for boating and fishing. If birdwatching is more your speed, take a walk along the Yeramba Lagoon track where more than 100 species of birds have been recorded, including pink robins and grey fantails. The river is perfect for waterskiing, jetskiing, kayaking and canoeing and there are plenty of places to explore, all with a backdrop of spectacular scenery.

Australian Botanic Garden Mount Annan

Set on 416 hectares of rolling hills, lakes, lawns and gardens, the Australian Botanic Garden Mount Annan has something for every member of the family. Explore the themed gardens, visit the Bird Hide on Lake Nadungamba and spot native wildlife including wallaroos, frogs and lizards. Pack a picnic and take advantage of the barbeques and facilities, enjoy a meal at The Garden’s Café, or grab a takeaway from the food trucks. Bring a mountain bike to experience the dedicated trail or walk along more than 20km of walking paths and trails.

Dharawal National Park

For a bushland experience like no other, take a 22km drive to Dharawal National Park. The area is significant to the Dharawal Aboriginal people and protects several significant Aboriginal sites. Spend the day walking or cycling along the trails before cooling off in Stokes Creek. The area is perfect for birdwatchers, so pack your binoculars. And if you love wildflowers, be sure to visit in spring when they are in full bloom!

With so much natural beauty at your fingertips, you’ll never be short of ways to spend your weekends at Figtree Hill.
