Hot cross bun French toast with melted chocolate

Elevate your morning meal with a twist on traditional hot cross buns, soaked in a sweet French toast batter and cooked until golden brown. Top it off with a drizzle of indulgent chocolate syrup and some fresh fruit for the ultimate breakfast treat. Perfect for a lazy weekend morning or a special occasion brunch, this recipe is sure to wow anyone who tries it. 

Ingredients

2-3 slightly stale hot cross buns

4 eggs

100 ml milk

2 tbsp caster sugar

clarified butter; for frying

2 bananas

100 g raspberries

100 g milk chocolate; melted

Method

1. Thickly slice the hot cross buns.

2. Mix the eggs with the milk and sugar in a shallow bowl. Add the hot cross buns slices and turn to coat.

3. Heat some butter in a frying pan and fry the slices for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown. Remove and drain on a piece of kitchen paper.

4. Peel and slice the bananas. Stack the buns on a plate, arrange the raspberries and bananas on top and serve drizzled with the melted chocolate.
