Planning a party is fun, but we all know it can get a bit time-consuming and costly. The good news? You may have noticed the rise of cake hacks across social media, and we’re here to confirm… they work! Give those classic store-bought cakes we all know and love, a zjoosh with some simple decorating. It’s the perfect combo of a showstopping cake, minus the heart-stopping price tag.  Easy and budget friendly, these simple hacks are perfect for your next celebration and will have all your guests asking, “where did you get that?”.

For the cookie monsters amongst us, our layered Oreo cake is the perfect cake creation for any event. Utilising the Aussie legend that is the supermarket mud cake, this tasty treat and all its ingredients can be found easily at your local Coles or Woolworths.

Ingredients

Two chocolate mud cakes

One white chocolate mud cake

Powdered icing

50ml milk

Tbsp of vanilla bean paste

Oreo cookies

Method

1. First to make your icing, use an electric beater to combine powered icing, milk, and vanilla bean paste until smooth peaks form.

A metal mixing bowl with powdered icing and vanilla paste, with a cup of milk being poured in.

2. Next, layer your mud cakes, keeping the white chocolate cake in the middle. This will make your cake look like a giant Oreo when cut! Use a thin layer of icing between each cake to secure.

3. Spread remaining icing over the entire cake, covering all three layers. Ensure the layer is thick and even so that the cake appears uniformly covered.

4. Gently push Oreo cookies into all sides of the cake — we used regular and mini Oreos.
