This can be an intimidating task (especially if you have a crowd of returning visitors to please), but there’s no need to feel overwhelmed – simply follow our top tips to master the art of Christmas tableware – think tablecloths, centrepieces, bonbons, and personalised touches.

Consider the theme

Christmas time calls for an array of festive décor, so it’s only natural to want to create a beautiful flow from one room to the next with a set theme – opt for a fun, colourful theme this year. Be sure to carry your theme through from your wreath, to your tree, and your tablescape (this will ensure your whole home feels cohesive from the moment your guests step foot inside).


Keep it symmetrical  

Once you have laid the tablecloth down it’s time to get down to business – choose decorative accents with varying heights and volumes and then get placing them onto the table runner! Although there are no set rules to decorating a Christmas table, we recommend that your centrepiece is the largest piece on the table. After your centrepiece is placed, it’s time to work your way out from there. Be sure to think about how each visual element is displayed and keep it balanced by placing the same item (or similar) symmetrically on each side of the table. Select accent items such as candlesticks, foliage, vases, and ornaments.


Preparation is key 

‘Twas the night before Christmas and that means it’s table-setting time! Christmas Day is going to be a busy day, filled with opening presents, cooking, entertaining, and a whole lot of fun – so don’t leave setting the table for minutes before your guests arrive. Instead, set aside at least an hour on Christmas Eve to tune into your inner interior designer. This will allow for the optimal amount of time to polish cutlery, fold serviettes, iron the tablecloth, and perfectly place your chosen décor.
