DIY edible bouquets for Valentine's Day

Category: food

If your special someone isn’t into flowers but is a massive foodie, this is the DIY for you. While traditional bouquets are always appreciated, they often feel expected and sometimes lacking in thought, so this year we’re tapping into one of the biggest trends and spicing things up with edible bouquets! If avoiding clichés and making something special and personalised for your loved one is your top priority this Valentine’s Day, these bouquets are fun, thoughtful and can be completely bespoke to your loved one’s taste. If you’re lucky, you might get a share in the goodies too! Here at Stockland we’ve stepped everything out for you so all you need to do is get creating.

Feeling fresh

If your loved one is a sucker for some fresh watermelon, juicy pineapple, or tasty grapes on a warm summer’s day, this is the bouquet for them! A yummy, yet healthier option than choccies, this fresh fruit bouquet is ideal for those with a sweet tooth who are keen to keep it nutritious. This DIY is also a playful activity for the little ones if they’re wanting to get involved in the V-day fun! We’ve listed out all the steps below, but feel free to check out our easy-to-follow guide on Instagram.

 DIY Fruit Bouquet

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Watermelon
  • Rockmelon
  • Pineapple
  • Blueberries
  • Grapes
  • Chocolate covered strawberries
  • Skewers
  • Wrapping paper
  • Scissors
  • Sticky tape
  • Ribbon
  • Flower and heart cookie cutters

Method:

Step one

First up, slice your watermelon, pineapple, and rockmelon into 2cm wide slices. Use your flower and heart cookies cutters to make a variety of shapes in lots of different sizes.

Step two

Get creative and use toothpicks to layer up your fruit shapes. We love popping a blueberry in the centre to make the perfect flower! Tip: be careful not to make them too heavy or they won’t stand up in your bouquet!

Step three

Use your skewers to secure the fruit in a variety of designs, making sure you get a good mix of colours. You can even place grapes or blueberries in the length of the skewers to look like stems!

Step four

Lay your wrapping paper and start to arrange your fruit skewers. Make sure to layer them slightly on top of each other to stop the bouquet from getting too wide. Once you’re happy with your design, use two pieces of twine to secure the skewers together at the bottom.

Step five

Fold over your wrapping paper and secure with sticky tape. Finish off your bouquet with a bow and voila! You can present your bouquet like this, or if you have a vase at home, feel free to arrange your skewers in it. You can even include some chocolate-covered strawberries for a cheeky addition!

You doughnut know how much I love you

For those looking for something a little more indulgent this Valentine’s Day, a DIY doughnut bouquet is the way to your loved one’s heart! When it comes to making this for your partner, you can pick out the flavours you know they love, or colour code your doughnuts to match their favourite shades! Simple, yet tasty this is a great way to reinvent the flower bouquet this Valentine’s Day. Check out our how-to video below!

DIY Donut Bouquet

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 8-12 mixed doughnuts
  • Skewers
  • Wrapping paper
  • Scissors
  • Sticky tape
  • Ribbon
  • Gift box
  • Twine
  • Chocolate balls

Method:

Step one

Lay your wrapping paper on the table. Skewer doughnuts with two skewers each (one on each side, crossed over at the bottom) and arrange on your paper. Layer them slightly on top of each other and make sure to use a variety of colours and sizes.

Step two

Once all your doughnuts are placed and you are happy with your design, use some twine to secure the ends. Fold up your wrapping paper and secure with sticky tape. We suggest wrapping the tape around tightly to ensure the skewers are fastened together properly. Finish off your bouquet with a big Valentine’s Day bow!

Step three

To make this surprise extra special, place your bouquet in a gift box with tissue paper. Pop in some of their favourite chocolate treats for that extra bit of indulgence! Place the lid on top and secure with a bow. And there you have it – your personalised doughnut bouquet is ready to gift!
