TAFE Queensland now open at Yarrabilba

The wait is over, as TAFE Community Learning Centre turns a new page in our community’s evolving story, officially opening their doors at Yarrabilba this October.

The state-of-the-art TAFE Community Learning Centre opened its doors at a special community housewarming party, supporting a brighter future for the next generation in the Yarrabilba community.

The new campus, located at The Buzz at Yarrabilba (proudly powered by the Y – part of YMCA Brisbane), now provides students with the quality, hands-on training they need to succeed in their chosen careers, while fulfilling the skill demands of the community.

By opening this new campus, TAFE Queensland is extending its world-class training to the Yarrabilba community.

The new community space is an inclusive, engaging and responsive place that enables a thriving community to connect, learn, earn and innovate. The campus has easy access to green spaces as well as cafes and food outlets for students to refuel between classes.

TAFE Queensland General Manager, Brent Kinnane said TAFE is delivering practical and industry-relevant training to provide Yarrabilba students with the skills and experience they need to build lifelong careers.

“TAFE Queensland is committed to its role in making training accessible to students from all walks of life, in communities all around Queensland, to enhance the social well-being of the communities we serve,” said Mr Kinnane.

“By adding our flexible and tailored training solutions to Yarrabilba, we’re helping grow the community by providing a skilled workforce needed to drive its economic growth and future prosperity.

“We partner with industry and government to ensure our training meets current and future employment demands. By working alongside government and industry, TAFE Queensland plays a critical role in providing the skilled workforce needed to drive economic growth and future prosperity. We’re thrilled to now deliver hands-on, practical training to the Yarrabilba community.”

Logan City Council, Deputy Mayor Laurie Koranski said The Buzz Housewarming event, brought the community together to celebrate the official opening.

“The Buzz was a buzz in Yarrabilba, seven years in the making. It was so exciting to see the community here to celebrate with us all,” she said.

The Y (YMCA) Qld, Group Manager – Children's Services, Families and Community Michele Meredith said the future was very bright, bringing much-needed services to the Yarrabilba people.

“It was very exciting to be part of The Buzz Housewarming event, and thrilled for YMCA Queensland to play our part in Yarrabilba and a big thank you to all the volunteers and the community who came out and made it possible.”

State MP for Logan, Linus Power said The Buzz is a new community space that was delivered in partnership with Logan City Council, Lendlease, Queensland Government and Brisbane Catholic Education.

“Families, young people and job seekers have come to the special opening as The Buzz will be our hub in Yarrabilba to connect people with the services they need to act as a binding agent so everyone can get together to talk.”

In other exciting news, The Buzz at Yarrabilba Community Centre, The Y (YMCA) Qld, Centre Manager Joel Tuita said they have officially launched their recording studio, where the local community can come together, record their sound, and have a creative outlet.

  • Plus more specific training programs will be added to meet industry and community demands

The location of the facility is situated between Yarrabilba State Secondary College and San Damiano College, offering a range of training opportunities for local students even before they finish school.
