National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

The dates for NRW remain the same each year – 27 May to 3 June – and commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey.

The first milestone was the successful 1967 referendum when more than 90 per cent of Australians voted 'yes' to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples to be given the right to vote as citizens in this country. The second milestone was the historic High Court Mabo land rights decision, which led to the legal recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the Traditional Owners and Custodian of lands. This decision paved the way for Native Title.

The theme for NRW this year, Be a Voice for Generations, encourages all Australians to be a voice for reconciliation in tangible ways in our everyday lives - where we live, work and socialise. For the work of generations past, and the benefit of generations future, let's choose to create a more just, equitable and reconciled country for all.

At Stockland we believe that we have both the opportunity and the responsibility to create the right balance of social, environmental and economic conditions for our communities, customers and investors now and in the future. As such, we have a responsibility to ensure we embrace the varied and rich cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities.

Stockland Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan

Our Stockland Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan 2020 - 2022 (RAP) aims to make a valuable contribution to our communities and our country by helping to shape thriving communities that value, respect and celebrate Australia’s First Peoples. Stockland is currently partnering with Reconciliation Australia to develop our Stretch Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), which will be released later this year.

Our focus on initiatives and programs in the areas of wellbeing, education and community connection will allow us to create a deeper understanding and better embrace Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ heritage and their role as the original custodians of Australia. Read Stockland’s Reconciliation Action Plan.
Reconciliation Action Plan - Stockland An action of our Innovate RAP is to demonstrate respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples by observing cultural protocols, such as Acknowledgement of Country. We support NRW’s actions to Be a Voice by encouraging everyone to learn whose Country you are on and Acknowledging Country in meetings and gatherings.

To find out whose Country you are on and see what other Actions to Be a Voice you can take every day of the year, visit the National Reconciliation Week website here.
