Bird watcher and photography enthusiast Peter Granfield has combined his passions to capture the many different species in his neighbourhood.

“I had been a photographer for many years and I saw the birds in our backyard and it gave me the motivation to record them,” he said.

“Coming to Halcyon Waters really amplified that as the community is home to many birds.”

Peter and his wife Jan have lived at Stockland’s Halcyon Waters in Hope Island (QLD) after moving from the Toowoomba region.

“Living at Halcyon Waters has given me the opportunity to chronicle 12 months in a bird’s life and really capture the full lifecycle.”

He said he had recorded anomalies in the colouring of a Willie Wagtail and passed on the findings to an ornithologist friend who published an article in a bird journal.

Peter said his favourite times for photographing birdlife were sunrise and late afternoons.

“I like it in the mornings when they are greeting the day and then later after they have been foraging for food,” he said.
