Friendship finds a new home at Halcyon Promenade

They say you can choose your friends, but you can’t choose your neighbours. For Des and Hilda Thomas and Dianne and Ken Klein, luck was on their side — the long-time neighbours became firm friends over 35 years of living side by side on acreages in Burpengary.

“As neighbours, we’ve always looked out for each other,” Hilda says. “I even call Ken ‘King Ken of the Court’ because he’s always taking everyone’s bins out and bringing them back in.”

Their connection grew slowly over the years. “To be honest, we could go days or even weeks without seeing each other,” Dianne adds. “It wasn’t until we started camping together that we really got to know each other and became friends.”

Long-time neighbours Dianne, Ken, Des and Hilda are looking forward to their next chapter at Halcyon Promenade.

Now, the two couples are looking forward to continuing their neighbourly tradition in the Stockland community of Halcyon Promenade.

It was Ken who discovered the opportunity first, stopping by the sales office on a whim.

“The office wasn’t even supposed to be open that weekend, but the team welcomed me in and showed me around,” Ken recalls. “By Monday, we were calling them to say we wanted in — we just fell in love with it.”

Excited about their move, the Kleins shared the news with the Thomases, and the idea quickly gained momentum.

“We joked about picking the lot next door to theirs, but it wasn’t planned,” Hilda laughs. “It just worked out that way.”

For both couples, Halcyon Promenade offers the perfect mix of lifestyle and convenience.

“Living on acreage, the work just never stops,” Dianne says. “We’re looking forward to having more time to relax and be social.”

Des, who worked in property development before retiring, was immediately impressed.

“Stockland has always had a good reputation, so I was ready to commit straight away,” Des says. “The facilities at Halcyon Promenade are incredible — Ken and I can keep up our gym routines, Hilda loves swimming, and the best part is we don’t have to maintain everything ourselves.”

Ken agrees, adding, “When we travel, we can just lock up and go without worrying about an overgrown garden or endless maintenance when we get back.”

For Dianne and Ken, the design of their new home is also a welcome change.

“Our new home is much more open plan than what we have now,” Ken shares. “The kitchen opens onto the lounge area, and the big sliding doors lead straight to the patio.”

From acreage to a vibrant community, these four friends are ready to embrace the lifestyle at Halcyon Promenade.

Since making their decision, the couples have already embraced the community spirit of Halcyon Promenade. They recently attended the annual Christmas party, which brought together nearly 400 current and soon-to-be residents.

“It was so well organised, and we’ve already met so many people,” Hilda says.

As Des, Hilda, Dianne, and Ken look ahead to their move to Halcyon Promenade, they’re excited to embrace the lifestyle, connection, and ease that this community offers. And with this friendship circle’s easy camaraderie and infectious humour, they are sure to fit in beautifully.
