Dancing into Love

27 August 2024

Lyn and Trevor's Heart-warming Journey at Halcyon Glades

Lyn and Trevor, homeowner who were both navigating widowed life within Halcyon Glades, found exepected companionship over their love of dancing.

After moving to Halcyon Glades to be closer to her children, Lyn was quickly swept up in her beautiful new home and the joys of community life. Trevor was already living in the community, a short distance from Lyn's future home and both were unaware that love was just around the corner! Now the happy couple have just sold the smaller home and moved in together.

Q: When you bought your first homes at Halcyon Glades, were they new homes or resales?

We had one of each. I bought a home that was up for resale from the previous owners and Trev built and customised home to include wheelchair accessibility as his wife was in a wheelchair. So, it has a wider hallway and wider doorways because you need to be able to turn around in a wheelchair comfortably.

Q: How was your experience buying a resale, Lyn?

I bought mine as a resale and I went through Mel the Resales Agent here at Glades.  My home was about 4 years old when I bought it, and it was lovely. The process with Mel was great!  I had come from an over 50’s village at Ipswich so I knew about Land Lease Communities already and understood the process.

Q: Since you hadn’t met Trevor yet, what first attracted you to Halcyon Glades?

I had built my previous home in the over 50s village in Ipswich and was there for 13 years. After my husband passed away 8 years into our time at the previous village, I felt a growing desire over the next 5 years to be closer to our kids, who reside on the Sunshine Coast. A friend of mine who lived in Landsborough started looking around for me and came across Halcyon Glades.  She told me about it and when I came to see it, I was completely sold.

Q: And what attracted you to the community, Trevor?

I’ve been at Halcyon Glades for 4 and a half years and what first attracted me to the community was the wide street layouts, gardens, open spaces and streetscapes.  It also has everything here within a short distance.  We have shops close by, dentists and doctors, you don’t need to go far for anything so that was a real drawcard as well.

Q: Who lived at Glades first and how did you meet?

Trevor lived here first and then I came about 2 years ago.  We were both widowed and both enjoyed dancing so we would do square dancing and saw each other at parties and things like that. One night Trevor asked me to dance and it just went from there. We weren’t looking for a relationship but it was really meant to be.

Q: Did you have the same house design/style?

No, we didn’t but that didn’t matter.  I was in a house with a 1.5 garage and Trev has a double garage plus his house has the extra space for wheelchair accessibility. I think mine was a Davenport 3 and Trev’s was a Belvedere from memory.

Q: Have you been to one of our Resales Information Sessions?

We haven’t because we aren’t interested in leaving the community, but I went through the Halcyon Resales team when I was buying and when I was selling my home to move into Trev’s. Mel helped us both times and the process was smooth and easy. I sold my home last week and it was only on the market for 1 day!

Q: Do you recommend Halcyon Communities to your friends, Lyn? Especially those looking for love?

Well not exactly but when friends and family visit, they can see what a great lifestyle there is here anyway. There’s a lot of younger people here compared to where I lived before.  There were mainly 70-80 year olds in my old village but here there are more 50 and 60 year olds mixed in. We love the lifestyle and the people here so we really would recommend it.
