Stockland named 'Best of the Best' for sustainability

In October 2018, Stockland won the 10-year Sustainability Achievement Award presented at the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage (OEH) Green Globe Awards. This award is a ‘Best of the Best’ recognition that honours winners from the 2008 Green Globe Awards who demonstrate long-term environmental achievements and successful program delivery and outcomes between 2008 and 2018.

We were recognised for being at the vanguard of market-leading design and delivery of sustainable places – retail centres, residential communities and retirement villages – for over a decade. On our leadership, Davina Rooney, General Manager Sustainability and Corporate Procurement said, ‘’This record is based on a company culture that sees sustainability as a key element of delivering a better way to live. Our achievements include the most Green Star rated retail centres and retirement living villages, and the most Green Star rated residential communities in Australia.’’

The award is testament to the genuine integration of sustainability into our business model, which drives us to structure our developments and operations for both business and community benefit. Our journey began in 2006 with the launch of our first corporate responsibility and sustainability strategy. Since then we have regularly lifted the benchmark for real estate development in Australia and at the global scale. In 2015 we built what was the largest rooftop solar installation at Stockland Shellharbour, and our focus on renewables has since expanded to be a $33 million solar rollout across our Commercial Property portfolio. In our Communities business, over the past decade we have achieved world-class recognition for our residential communities, including ‘World Leadership’ 6 Star Green Star ratings for Aura, Willowdale, Cloverton, Calleya, and Waterlea.

Our ‘Best of the Best’ award complements our designation as the most sustainable real estate company in the world by the Dow Jones Sustainability Index in 2011, 2013, 2015, 2016, and 2018.
