The Shellharbour community in New South Wales now has a new hub for families and shoppers to meet and for children to play with the opening of ‘The Avenue’, a new $5 million outdoor dining area with an inclusive playground for children of all ages and abilities.

Located within Stockland Shellharbour shopping centre, the playspace at The Avenue was designed in collaboration with Stockland’s CARE Foundation partner and inclusive playground specialist, the Touched By Olivia Foundation.

One in five Australians are living with a disability. We believe inclusive playspaces like this are important for the children, the parents and the whole community. Our playgrounds acknowledge disability by providing easy access and fun, stimulating play areas. Features allow all children to play together, including those with physical disabilities, vision, hearing and mobility impairments, or spectrum disorders such as autism.

The Avenue inclusive playspace is the latest in a suite of six playgrounds that we have developed in partnership with the Touched by Olivia Foundation. Incorporating these playspaces within our shopping centres and communities is just one of the ways we are using design to make it easier for our customers to connect and become more sustainable.
