Two new primary schools for Perth have been announced by the Western Australian Government and are scheduled to be open in 2026.

The new schools, which will be located in the fast-growing suburbs of Hilbert and Wellard, will help ease pressure on student numbers at existing schools. Wellard East Primary School will have facilities at the new school including an oval, music room, library, specialist science and art rooms.

The new school in Hilbert, with a planning name of Wungong (Precinct F) Primary School will have capacity for 540 students and includes similar amenities to the new Wellard school, with the addition of space for dental therapy.

WA Education Minister Dr Tony Buti said schools were a focal point for many communities and the new primary schools would enrich the suburbs.

"I am sure that families with young children in Wellard will be very happy to have more schooling options ready for the 2026 school year," he said.

"For families in Hilbert, what an exciting time this will be to send their children to the first school in the Wungong Urban Master Plan."

Premier Roger Cook said it was an exciting announcement for local families and future residents of these popular areas.

"These new public primary schools will have state-of-the-art facilities, giving local students access to the best possible learning environments where they can thrive.

"My government is committed to building quality facilities to ensure WA's education system keeps up with the populations of our fastest-growing suburbs."
