The votes are in! Announcing the names of Minta's new parks

Earlier this year, we asked you to vote on the names for Minta’s two upcoming parks.

We have worked closely with the Bunurong Land Council Aboriginal Corporation (BLCAC) to develop a list of proposed names that recognise and celebrate the Indigenous heritage of the site.

Thank you to everyone who voted! We're thrilled to introduce:

Stage 24 Reserve: located on Times Avenue & Royal Mile Avenue will now be known as Yalukit Willam. Yakulit Willam were a clan who occupied territory east of the Werribee River. Events and recreation were celebrated here. Although this name is relevant to all reserves, the central location of Stage 24 Reserve means this area will naturally become a place of connection.

Stage 28 Reserve: located on Santorini Parade will be known as Woolreep Reserve, meaning Tea Tree – which typically grow near waterways. You may recognise them by the Cardinia Creek and will be a feature of our new wetlands.

We are very excited to have collaborated with Bunurong Land Council Aboriginal Corporation (BLCAC), Casey Council and the Minta community to name these new parks! Keep reading for the latest construction updates.

Woolreep Reserve: Currently under construction, anticipating to open late July 2024

This reserve includes playspace-themed climbing equipment with a small play area for children. It offers residents the opportunity to enjoy views of the wetlands from a dedicated BBQ area, which provides shelter and ample seating for friends and family.

Yalukit Willam: Construction anticipated to start late 2024

This reserve will feature a traffic school park where our youngest residents can enjoy riding their bikes and scooters. There will also be a play space and outdoor tables available for community events and picnics.
