The Roller Door
Location: 13 Stawell St, West Melbourne
Website: https://www.rollerdoorcafe.com/
Perfect for: Families, friends (including furry friends!)

West Melbourne has welcomed its very own local – The Roller Door – a pint sized café in a shed, nestled within a humble little corner of the inner-West. This tiny cafe’s bright, sparkly interior and herb-filled courtyard strike a refreshing contrast to the surrounding neighbourhood’s semi-industrial aesthetic.

The menu has a focus on ethical produce, and the breakfast offerings such as the Portuguese Sardines, baked eggs and the Millennial’s bread and butter – smashed avocado -are all local’s favourite. Take a seat at one of the communal tables, sample the organic coffee and you’ll be glad that you visited!

Toasta & Co
Location: 181 Adderley Street, West Melbourne
Website: http://www.toasta.com.au/
Perfect for: Perfect lunch spot for all ages

You may recognise the name “Toasta & Co” from the popular Melbourne food-trucks appearing at a range of festivals and events and they have now opened opened a little corner store in West Melbourne to ensure Toastie-enthusiasts can always get their fix.

The old school white brick façade is cleverly contrasted by vibrant cartoon wallpaper by cartoonist Emily Bailey and the menu offers something for everyone looking for a cheesy, tasty treat. You can find the ‘Classic’ toastie, the epic mac & cheese, the Vietnamese inspired schnitzel with pickled Asian vegetables plus much more – the perfect ‘grab and go’ option.

Corner Shop Cafe
Location: 9/11 Ballarat St, Yarraville
Website: https://www.cornershopyarraville.com/
Perfect for: Bustling brunch spot, perfect for all ages

Proudly Yarraville, this little gem is located within in the heart of Yarraville, nestled next to the popular Sun Theatre and the Sun Bookshop. Historically an old corner store, the renovated café now offers a bustling brunch atmosphere commonplace amongst Melbourne café’s.

The cafe’s menu is ever changing and always surprising; expect locally sourced produce (where possible), fresh and seasonable flavours and sweet treats to follow.  The top notch coffee is pumped out by the Synesso machine and on Thursday to Saturday, you can return to find a substantial dinner menu and a respectable selection of craft beers.

The Plough Hotel
Location: 333 Barkley Street, Footscray
Website: http://www.ploughhotel.com.au/
Perfect for: Casual drink or meal with friends

Built in 1868, this historic Footscray pub has been recently reinvigorated, and has re-established itself as a true Footscray icon, proving popular once again with the locals.

The menu is large but easily to navigate and focuses on modern, locally sourced produce with a Mediterranean twist, interwoven with usual pub classics. The interiors are stylish and fresh but not too slick, complementing the bistro, restaurant and casual dining areas seamlessly. Backed up by a smart Victorian beer and wine list, the Plough is the perfect setting for after-work drinks or a spontaneous meal.
