As the world continues to shift towards a more sustainable future, the demand for electric vehicles (EVs) is on the rise. However, a challenge for EV owners is finding convenient and accessible charging stations.

To help address this, Stockland has partnered with Ampol to roll out one of the nation’s largest shopping centre networks of AmpCharge fast and ultra-fast EV charging infrastructure.

Stockland customers and retail tenants will soon have access to over 100 AmpCharge charging bays across 15 of Stockland’s retail town centres, allowing them to fully charge their cars in about 60 minutes or less.

According to the Federal Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communication and the Arts, Australia’s transport sector is the third largest source of the country’s greenhouse gas emissions, and is projected to be the largest in Australia by 2030, making EV infrastructure like this more important than ever in supporting Australia’s transition to a lower carbon future.

Electric vehicles on the rise

In 2023, EV purchases in Australia more than doubled compared with the prior year, with the total number of EVs on Australian roads now exceeding 180,000.

As more drivers seek convenient places to charge their cars, wherever and whenever they need, this partnership will provide simple and accessible charging options for consumers.

“This new partnership marks a significant progression in our commitment to supporting our customers and partners as they navigate their energy transition journeys. We look forward to rolling out this critical infrastructure to accommodate an ever-growing number of EVs on our roads,” said Managing Director and CEO of Ampol, Matt Halliday.

“Last year, our town centres saw nearly 1.8 million visits on average each week, and as the uptake of EVs grows in Australia, we will be providing customers with simple and accessible charging.

“This partnership provides an opportunity for us to expand the roll-out of EV charging infrastructure across Stockland’s workplaces and communities in the future, making it easier for people to charge their vehicles wherever they live, work, socialise, or shop," said Stockland Managing Director and CEO, Tarun Gupta.

As part of the partnership, Stockland and Ampol will continue to look at opportunities to meet the evolving needs of Stockland’s customers and communities.
