Woolworths to anchor Stockland’s new Gables Town Centre in Sydney’s Hills district
Construction has started on Stockland’s Gables Town Centre, a new shopping hub in the heart of its masterplanned community, The Gables, located in the Hills district in Sydney’s thriving north west corridor.
Stockland Gables will be anchored by a full-line 3,800 square metre Woolworths supermarket and include a childcare centre operated by Nido Early School, a medical centre and pharmacy, a gym, as well as several specialty shops, food and dining options.
Gables Town Centre is the first development as part of Stockland’s renewed strategy to create its own neighbourhood town centres within its masterplanned communities, with plans underway for other Stockland communities across Australia including Providence in Queensland and Sienna Wood in Western Australia. In 2019, Stockland opened the Baringa town centre at its Aura masterplanned community in Queensland.
Stockland CEO, Investment Management, Kylie O’Connor said it’s an exciting time for Stockland’s retail business, with a focus on creating opportunities within our ‘own backyard’ to meet the growing needs of Stockland residential communities, like The Gables.
“The retail mix we’re looking to curate at our newest town centre is based on the feedback we’ve received from residents. We’re excited to start construction on Gables Town Centre and bring a range of food and beverage options, health and wellbeing services and speciality stores that the community will love, all anchored by Woolworths,” Ms O’Connor said.
“We continue to build on our Stockland legacy, creating thriving communities for our residents. In addition to being a convenient place to pick up daily necessities, Stockland Gables will also become a destination for the community to come together, relax and enjoy a meal while overlooking a future four-hectare lake next to the town centre.
“After a period of remixing and repositioning the Stockland town centre portfolio, our focus is now on building essentials-based developments within Stockland’s masterplanned communities. Like our founder Ervin Graf did in the 50s and 60s, we’re looking to do this within the new suburbs that are being created by Stockland – communities that are growing with first homebuyers and young families, through to active retirees,” Ms O’Connor added.
Woolworths New South Wales Property Portfolio Manager – Leasehold, Brad Karge said Woolworths was excited to have entered into a lease agreement with Stockland for a new store at their upcoming Western Sydney development, The Gables.
“Customers will have the opportunity to shop in-store from a range of everyday essentials or place an order for Direct to Boot or home delivery,” Mr Karge said.
“This modern Woolworths supermarket will create a number of jobs throughout construction, and ongoing, to complement and support a growing region of Sydney.”
Trade commencement is expected in early 2026.
The Gables community is currently home to nearly 4,500 residents and once complete is expected to be home to around 13,000 residents from first homebuyers through to retirees.
Stockland has also recently announced construction is underway on its first land lease community in New South Wales, Stockland Halcyon Gables, a community designed for over-60s who are looking for a vibrant and active lifestyle. Halcyon will be located 800 metres from the new town centre.
