Stockland Jesmond ‘Eat Street’ opens

Stockland Jesmond is celebrating the grand opening of ‘Eat Street’, a new casual dining precinct, which forms part of the recently completed $10 million upgrade of the shopping centre.

Special guests, Sonia Hornery MP, Member for Wallsend and Shadow Minister for the Hunter and Newcastle Lord Mayor Councillor Nuatali Nelmes, presided over the opening ceremony to launch the new precinct, sharing the occasion with hordes of hungry and excited local shoppers and Stockland representatives.

The new precinct, appropriately named ‘Eat Street’, features a new 250-seat alfresco dining area across the front façade of Stockland Jesmond and an all-weather awning. With an exciting array of retailers for customers to enjoy from much loved franchises such as Subway and Crust Pizza, to local heroes such as Harry’s Schnitzels and new offerings such as BBQ King and Yalla Yalla.

Eat Street activates the entire shopping centre by providing a great new dining destination where friends and family can meet for coffee and cake, a relaxing lunch, a quick bite or a family dinner all year round.

John Schroder continues, “Food service in particular presents excellent opportunities for business entrepreneurs in the local Newcastle region and we’re keen to strike the right balance by offering customers the best local and international cuisines and flavours.”

“We think Eat Street is a wonderful, new addition to the local area that will offer a greater variety of food choices and, importantly, create a unique sense of place for the community.”

Stockland Jesmond will also soon deliver more for customers with supermarket chain ALDI confirmed to open at the centre by mid-2015. ALDI will occupy a 1,300 square metre store on the centre’s second floor next to Help Street Medical Centre and Mystique Hair Beauty & Nails.

Sonia Hornery MP, Member for Wallsend and Shadow Minister for the Hunter and, Lord Mayor Councillor Nuatali Nelmes officially opened the new Eat Street precinct and unveiled a plaque to be placed in the centre.

Ms Hornery, comments, “Local shopping centres are the hubs of our community and the new ‘Eat Street’ at Stockland Jesmond will provide an exciting new environment to meet and socialise over a coffee, lunch or a quick snack. “

“I congratulate Stockland Jesmond on their new dining precinct and I look forward to enjoying many a catch up with friends, family and my constituents in these wonderful new surrounds.”

Councillor Nelmes comments, “Eat Street’ is a fantastic example of economic growth in our community. Stockland Jesmond has made a significant investment in this redevelopment to meet the shopping, leisure and dining needs of the local community.”

“I can see that ‘Eat Street’ at Stockland Jesmond is going to be a very popular destination for locals to meet and catch up.” Shoppers also took part in the celebrations today with a host of fun entertainment including Henna Tattoo Artists, Lebanese Belly Dancers and a German dancing trio. There was also plenty of free foodie fare from retailers and fantastic freebies including five iPad Airs which were given away; promising something for everyone.

Stockland Jesmond’s Long Lunch Series, was also launched today, offering customers the chance to enjoy a progressive meal by the new restaurants and cafes on Eat Street. The event includes a three course meal including, entrée, main and desert plus free coffee vouchers and the chance to meet new friends from the community over the shared meal.
