Stockland Green Hills celebrates first stage opening
Stockland will unveil and officially open the first section of its $412 million redevelopment and expansion of Stockland Green Hills today, giving customers their first experience of the new and improved centre – with a lot more to come.
Today’s opening brings 14 retailers to Stockland Green Hills, including Cruise Travel, L’Amore Nails and Toto Sushi, all new to the centre, and Blooms The Chemist, which opens its second store. Ten retailers make their triumphant return to the centre’s brand new premises, including Best&Less, The Reject Shop and MyHouse.
Tim Beattie, Stockland General Manager, Design and Development, said: “Today we are one step closer to transforming Stockland Green Hills into a vibrant, thriving shopping, leisure and entertainment destination that is set to be the pride of the Hunter.”
The redevelopment is on track to generate more than 2,600 jobs, including 1,350 construction jobs, 1,250 direct full time jobs in retail, customer service and hospitality, and some 1,200 flow-on jobs for local suppliers.
Tim Beattie continues: “In addition to delivering a much-improved shopping experience for our customers, we’re proud to say that our $412 million investment is creating thousands of new jobs for the local region and creating an important multiplier effect on the regional economy. We hope customers will continue to embrace the new centre as the heart of their local community and make it their own.”
To celebrate today’s opening, Meryl Swanson MP, Federal Member for Paterson; Jenny Aitchison MP, State Member for Maitland; and Mayor of Maitland Councillor Peter Blackmore OAM joined the Stockland team to tour the new section of the centre and see the redevelopment works in action.
Meryl Swanson MP, Federal Member for Paterson, said: “I am pleased to see this exciting development taking shape, and I congratulate Stockland on providing this boost to our local economy through new jobs and a fantastic place for us to shop and relax.”
Jenny Aitchison MP, Member for Maitland, said: “It is fantastic to see the Stockland Green Hills redevelopment making such great progress especially with the thousands of new construction and permanent retail jobs it will create for the Maitland community
Maitland Mayor Councillor Peter Blackmore OAM said: “Today is an exciting moment for our community. I am pleased to see such great progress on the redevelopment and thank Stockland for their investment and commitment and confidence to the Maitland region.”
As part of the first stage opening today, Stockland will open 300 new car parking spaces with park assist technology that illuminates available spaces for the ease and convenience of customers. Key access improvements from today also include a new centre entry near Best&Less and a direct access pedestrian link to the shops from Mitchell Drive and bus stop.
Stockland Green Hills is hosting a range of activities and entertainment for customers as part of today’s celebrations, including a candle making workshop, live cooking demonstrations and, appropriately, a character appearance from Bob the Builder. Further entertainment will continue tomorrow and across the weekend.
The redevelopment of Stockland Green Hills continues to steam along for the next stage, with around 17 additional, new retail stores expected to open in August 2017.
Tim Beattie continues, “There’s an incredible buzz around the centre, and we can’t wait to deliver the next stage later this year – delivering more exciting new retailers, more services, better entertainment and dining options, as well as easier access to the centre in the months ahead.”
“We sincerely thank the community for their patience as we undertake these crucial works to fulfil our vision for a bigger and better Stockland Green Hills.”
Upon completion in mid-2018, the centre will more than double in size to around 74,000 square metres and will feature the first new look David Jones department store in the Hunter, a new 900 seat Hoyts cinema and around 225 tenancies with a vibrant new dining and entertainment precinct that will be the biggest and best in the region.
