Country living without the maintenance

Having spent almost three decades living on acreage, the country feel of Halcyon Rise (QLD) is what first appealed to Kevin Brennan and Debbie Street.

The couple had spent the past 28 years living on six acres at Cedar Creek and loved the rural way of life but had grown tired of the maintenance and upkeep a property of that size demanded.

“We loved the country feel of Rise and the sense of open space the community has,” Kevin said.

“Even when you’re driving there, it feels like you’re in the country rather than being a stone’s throw from the M1.”

The couple had looked at moving to Stockland Halcyon Communities a few years ago after visiting Halcyon Waters and Vision by Halcyon in Hope Island, on the northern Gold Coast.

“We were really impressed by what we saw and what community living offered us, but the timing wasn’t right,” Kevin said.

Debbie added: “We were happy when we saw Rise come along as we were ready to downsize from our acreage and my Mum is in an assisted living village nearby.”

The couple have recently become the 50th homeowners to move into Halcyon Rise and they are wasting no time settling into community life.

“We love it,” Debbie said. “Everyone is so friendly and we have landed in a fantastic street, we’re already having regular street parties.”

“It’s been a really easy transition into community living, everyone helps everyone and we’re all here for the same reason.”

Both are excited to get involved in new activities when the community’s facilities are completed, with Debbie looking forward to getting fit in the gym.

“I’m keen to try pickleball and lawn bowls,” Kevin said. “We’ll try everything at first and work out what we enjoy.”

Prior to the pandemic, Kevin and Debbie had planned to travel overseas but were now looking to visit Australian destinations including Tasmania and northern NSW.

“It’s going to be great just being able to lock up and go and know that our house is safe,” Debbie said.
