Cabaret for a Cure at Halcyon Greens
Halcyon Greens Cabaret for a Cure event came about on a lazy Sunday afternoon when home owners and great mates, John and Noel were barbequing together.
They wanted to raise funds to support prostate and bowel cancer, and were motivated by the desire to celebrate friends and family who have bravely stood at the front-line battling cancer.
What started as a humorous possibility, quickly became a reality as John and Noel enlisted the amateur talents from an unlikely crew of Halcyon home owners. The cast, stage crew, and event management team grew to a group of 65 home owners.
The Cabaret program over two events presented a much loved, musical line up with Halcyon’s versions of ‘The Village People’, ‘Donna & the Dynamos’ (from Mama Mia), ‘Freddy Mercury and Queen’ and a cheeky performance by Halcyon’s own ‘Manpower’. The sell-out shows entertained 600 attendees in total!
Halcyon's ‘The Village People’ set aside their anxieties to embody dynamic stage personas, flamboyantly dressed to deliver a cracking performance of ‘In the Navy’ and ‘YMCA’.
While Halcyon-style ‘Donna and the Dynamos’ were belting out ‘Dancing Queen’, a surprise flash-mob rose from the audience to join the show.
Halcyon Greens’ version of ‘Manpower’ was next on stage, presenting a cheeky performance to the song ‘Hot Stuff’. The brave fellows strutted their stuff amidst smoke haze and twirling umbrellas.
The grand finale was a medley of Queens greatest hits followed by the whole cast and crew joining together on stage to celebrate the heroes in their lives with, ‘We are the Champions’.
The Cabaret raffle prizes of goods, wine or gift cards were kindly donated by the Halcyon Greens home owners. The generous response allowed for two raffles and a silent auction of high-end prizes including golf bags, vintage wines, a family day pass to Dreamworld, and more.
The Cabaret for a Cure event raised $16,275.00, which was donated to Cancer Council QLD to support research into bowel and prostate cancer.
These big fundraisers are impressive, however, our home owners host fundraisers most months in most communities, quietly supporting charities and individuals close to their hearts. To say we have some remarkable people in our midst would be an understatement.
