How to prepare garlic three ways

Category: food

Love garlic but can’t quite work out the prep? You’ll be a pro in no time with Miguel’s three hacks to get the perfect minced, sliced, and full-flavoured garlic.

Minced garlic

  • What you’ll need:
  • Garlic clove
  • Sea salt
  • Knife
  • Chopping board

Method

1. Place the garlic clove on your chopping board and using the flat side of the knife, press down firmly against the clove — use force to ensure the clove crushes.
2. Sprinkle a pinch of sea salt onto the crushed garlic.
3. Using the flat edge of the knife again, begin to squish the garlic and salt combination against the board. Keep going until it resembles the perfect minced texture.
4. Enjoy!

Sliced garlic

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Garlic clove
  • Knife
  • Chopping board

Method

1. Take the clove of garlic and place it on your chopping board, flat side facing down.

2. Using the knife, begin to slice the garlic finely ensuring the pieces are even in size with a large flat surface.

3. Once the garlic clove has been sliced, the pieces will be perfect to throw into a sauce or caramelise in a pan.

The (c)love heart

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Garlic clove
  • Knife
  • Chopping board

Method

1. Using your knife, slice the clove of garlic into several similarly sized pieces on the chopping board.

2. Once the clove is sliced, take the knife and cut out the root (heart) of the clove by cutting a small wedge out of each slice.

3. After the hearts have been removed, they can be discarded, keeping the main piece of each slice of garlic to cook with.
