DIY Slumber Party Set Up

Category: kids

Once you’ve decided to host a sleepover for your child and their friends, one of the first things to consider is where to put them. While their bedroom might be an option when one or two friends are staying over, it’s worth setting up another space such as the living room for the evening when there are a few more little ones invited.

While you can host wonderful sleepovers with as many children as your home can hold, it’s recommended to invite between 3-5 children (4-6 kids including the host) to ensure you can supervise sufficiently and manage any chaos. Remember to keep numbers even, as this will reduce any upsets and arguments if one person is left out.

When setting up your area, consider moving valuables out of the way. Making it a safe space for pillow fights will save tears for both the kids and the adults. While any decorations will work to add an element of magic, picking pieces to match a theme will make the space feel like an escape for the little ones. Why not try unicorns or ninja turtles?

Putting a mattress inside a tee-pee is a great way to make the night feel extra special. Adding plenty of pillows, blankets, rugs and stuffed toys to the area will create a cosy and inviting environment for both playtime and sleep. Adding coloured bunting, fairy lights and balloons will make the occasion feel like a real celebration. Whether it’s for a birthday or “just because”, it’s these final touches that will make the evening exceptionally memorable.

Finish off the space with a few little activities they can grab any time throughout the evening—a Polaroid camera, some props and some eye masks are perfect. You can also add a few simple board games, earphones, speakers and MP3 players too.
