Award Finalists

Finalists for the Wyndham Business Awards were recently announced. We at Stockland Point Cook were proud to see several of our retailers be named as finalists, including Gracie’s Boutique. We caught up with the store owner, Kerrie: What inspired you to go into business? I’ve been self-employed for a long time & I’ve always (wanted) to do my own venture. I’ve always had this idea that Gracie, who is my oldest daughter who’s on the autism spectrum, would need somewhere to learn how to work, to get more experience to get a job herself. Or perhaps have somewhere that she could work with me. Originally it started with Made it by Gracie cards, we started online & expanded that. Her name is on the door to include her ownership. I live around the corner. I feel like I know lots of Point Cook people & I knew what I felt was missing in Point Cook, hence the collection that we put together in the store. What area of the business are you most proud of? I’m most proud of the team & the customer service that they provide. How much enjoyment we have working together. As much as it’s great that we have lots of suppliers in the community & have a real community involvement in the ownership, at the end of the day that’s only come about because of the team. That wouldn’t have happened unless we had the right people. I think that it’s changed the climate of the store, right from the beginning, it’s given it the feel that it’s got. Money & training can’t buy that. It’s just good people who love what they do. They’re genuine, honest, they operate as if they have shares in the store. They care, they go the extra mile. They don’t just care about me & the business, they care about the people who come in. What does this nomination mean to you? It’s always nice to have recognition but what I’ve found really interesting is the connections that have already come from it. Meeting other people in business & discovering people that we can collaborate with at different levels & people discovering us. That’s made a huge difference. We’ve all really enjoyed being recognised for what we’re doing. The girls were really excited when I told them we’d been selected as a finalist. What do you want Gracie’s to be famous for? I want (customers) to keep coming back because they enjoy coming in. That they feel like they’ve had a great experience. Whether they’ve bought something for $2 or they’ve bought something that’s going to be on their wall forever, wear for years or the best present they’ve ever bought, I want them to have that experience. Because we put new things in all the time, I just want them to keep coming & keep looking, seeing something new & interesting. If we keep the customer service there & keep it interesting, they’ll keep coming back.

Power up at Stockland

Stockland is powering up in innovation, rolling out universal ChargePoint Electric Vehicle (EV) and dedicated Tesla Destination Chargers across 31 of our shopping centres. Electric Vehicles and Tesla owners will be able to charge their cars for free in Stockland retail centres, boosting convenience for our customers while they shop, dine or spend time with family and friends. With Electric Vehicles playing a major role in the future of transportation, Stockland are proud to launch this initiative to meet the ever growing Australian demand whilst maintaining our commitment to sustainability. Our encouragement of Electric Vehicle usage will help reduce toxic gas and carbon emissions into the environment as these vehicles run on electric powered motors. These chargers have the ability to top up an Electric Vehicle’s battery by 20-40% in half an hour on average, saving our customers over $3 in electricity cost. To further support this initiative, Stockland have incorporated designated parking bays for Electric Vehicles across our centres that have the charging units installed. In Electric Car terms, when a conventional petrol powered Vehicle is parked in an Electric Vehicle bay, the Electric Vehicle driver socially refers to this as being ICE’d (Internal Combustion Engine). Therefore, we encourage non-Electric Vehicles to park in regular spaces to free these charge points for their intended use. The centres which currently have Electric Vehicle charging units installed include: • QLD: Burleigh Heads (2 charge points) • NSW: Jesmond (1 charge point), Glendale (1 charge point), Shellharbour (4 charge points), Balgowlah (1 charge point), Cammeray (1 charge point) and Baulkham Hills (2 charge points) • VIC: Point Cook (1 charge point) • WA: Harrisdale (2 charge points) and Baldivis (2 charge points) Furthermore, Stockland is also installing Tesla Destination Chargers over the next twelve months. At present, Tesla drivers can utilise the current charging stations located at our centres for free, provided they utilise their Tesla adaptor to connect to the charging unit. The Stockland shopping centres to have Tesla Destination Chargers installed over the next 12 months include: • QLD: Cairns, Townsville, North Shore, Rockhampton, Bundaberg, Gladstone, Hervey Bay (installed), Caloundra, Cleveland, Pacific Pines, Benowa Gardens, Burleigh Heads • NSW: Balgowlah (installed), Cammeray (installed), Green Hills, Jesmond, Merrylands, Baulkham Hills, Wetherill Park, Shellharbour, Bathurst, Nowra, Corrimal, Forster, Tamworth, Glendale, Wallsend • VIC: Highlands and The Pines • WA: Baldivis All our Stockland charge points are located on the PlugShare website (www.plugshare.com) with the aim of accommodating our centre customers over the course of their journey. For updates regarding our Electric Vehicle and Tesla Chargers, register now as a Stockland Member.
