Winter skincare trends

Category: fashion and beauty

What do you think of when you hear skincare? Perhaps the words flawless, glowing, and radiant come to mind, or maybe you think of trendy products and fancy treatments instead. Whatever your view of skincare is, you’ve come to the right place! We’ve discovered the top three skincare trends that are going to dominate the season (and happen to be cost-effective as well).

Skin cycling

You might have heard the term ‘skin cycling’ on social media and brushed it off as yet another ineffective trend. But this one actually has some serious credentials, especially considering it was created by a reputable dermatologist. Skin cycling is all about using different active ingredients on different days. Think of it like a workout plan but for your skin – some days you focus on different muscles and some days are simply recovery days (aka no active ingredients allowed).

If you’re interested in giving this trend a go then follow this four-day cycle. Day one is exfoliation day – we recommend using a glycolic scrub from Laser Clinics Australia or an exfoliating tonic from Priceline. On day two, be sure to use a retinoid or an active product of your choice, you can find great serums from Priceline. Days three and four are recovery days, which means sticking to your usual cleanse and hydration routine. Then all you have to do is repeat!

Glass skin

The Western world was introduced to the Korean beauty term ‘glass skin’ more than five years ago but recently it’s really taken off. Glass skin is meant to resemble glass (duh) – healthy, dewy, clean, and baby-soft skin. The key to achieving this look is all in your skincare regimen and more specifically by how you add hydration to it. We recommend cleansing twice and swapping out any drying products for ones rich in hydration – layer on the liquids! The best part? You can also fake it ‘till you make it with this trend and get the look through dewy makeup and liquid foundations from Big W, Priceline, Kmart, and even Woolworths.

Barrier protection

This trend requires a bit of a scientific breakdown. Our skin is made up of many layers but we’re going to focus on the outmost layer (also known as the skin barrier). Without the skin barrier, harmful toxins could penetrate our skin and cause some serious damage. So, given its importance, it makes sense that looking after this layer is the key to really good skin. And since our skin is considered an organ, it also makes sense that we should feed it with probiotic-based formulas – it’s like taking your daily vitamins but instead of consuming them, we apply them.

Barrier protection is more than a cosmetic trend it’s also crucial to looking after our body – be sure to opt for products with SPF, serums with niacinamide, and avoid any harsh brushes or intense scrubs.
